You now have abundant awareness about where your existing beliefs have come from and you can begin your wellness transformation, just like I did. Make a decision right now to let go any of your beliefs that don’t serve, support, nurture or challenge you – the ones that are holding you back from the life you deserve. Why would you keep something like that?
"Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent” Carl Jung
You may find it testing to let go of your old beliefs and that’s OK. But remember if you ARE carrying on someone else’s beliefs it is to make their life significant - to serve them, not you – LET THEM GO! If you find yourself wanting to holding on to them, casting blame or defending the behavior, I encourage you to ask yourself: “What would I be saying to my 5 year old self, right now AND what would I want her to believe about herself and the situation?”
For each Defining Moment you outlined earlier, ask yourself now:
- What aspect of myself was affected by this moment?
- Who was I being before this event and then after?
- If the meaning I have given this event is negative:
- What has this cost me in the past
- What will it cost me in the future (1 year, 5 years, 10 years time)?
- What have I surrendered and what have I missed out on experiencing?
- What have I tolerated in myself / in others?
- What are the consequences of keeping this belief?
- If the meaning was positive:
- What have I gained in the past and believe I will gain in the future?
- What have I not tolerated in myself / in others?
- What have I experienced?
- What did I discover about myself that I can still be sure of?
Great! NOW put your old beliefs that you’ve decided are holding you back into a brown paper bag. Throw it into a fast flowing stream to release the old connection. Or flush it down the toilet, if that’s more convenient. Toss it into a fire - on the BBQ or in the fireplace. Just let them go and NEVER mention them again.
Awesome, you are magnificent. I acknowledge your courage, your commitment and your fabulous intentions. Well Done J
It is time now tell your conscious mind to go for a coffee break and trust your unconscious mind to answer you. Your unconscious mind ONLY knows how magnificent you are and will tell you what you need to believe to reconnect you with your brilliant self. Again, aim for at least 8 new beliefs that are going to serve, support, nurture and challenge you and are in alignment with your hierarchy of values. Just keep going and trust what comes up.
To create extraordinary wellness in my life, my new beliefs are:
