“We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration. Inspiration seldom generates action.” ~ Frank Tibolt
Last Friday, I had the privilege of joining my eldest daughter, Jazmin (10yrs) at an appointment with her school principal.
You see, she had come home after the school Speech Night last week and had decided she wanted to be named school cap
...tain for 2019. As a mother, I was delighted, inspired and proud - what a wonderful goal for her to have chosen. As a coach, I know that creating a vision of your future, your life blue print, with clearly defined goals and action steps to move you forward, will help you achieve the desired outcomes you seek and will bring you closer to living the life you desire.
So we spoke about her new goal and the actions she would need to take to achieve this goal. She decided the 1st action step would be to meet with her school principal to understand what qualities she looks for in a School Captain, how they make a decision and ask advice on what Jazmin could do in the next eight years to contribute more to the school and improve her chances of being nominated.
The principal was so impressed at the initiative Jazmin had taken at such a young age and actually said she had never had a student approach her before to share their goal and ask her advice. Before the meeting, Jazmin was excited, scared and nervous - after the meeting she was so happy, inspired and committed. I am so, so proud of her. Well done, darling. You teach me how to be a better mother everyday x
This then got me thinking about why people struggle with setting goals and achieving them...and the answer lies with "Inspired Action"
"Have you ever decided to do something, with purpose, focus and commitment then taken resourceful action, overcoming whatever obstacles came up, for an absolutely, outstanding result, way beyond your expectations? What happened next? Were you inspired to do more? And, as you did more, did your sense of achievement, commitment and enjoyment go up? Yes, of course!
This is ‘inspired action’ at it’s best bringing about a quantum leap in your productivity and self-esteem. Most of us have experienced this from time to time and when we do, we improve our life circumstances dramatically. Whether it is clearing a roomful of clutter, improving your diet, or ending a dysfunctional and disempowering relationship, taking inspired action creates a sense of joy, power and control in our lives resulting in greater personal success."
